Michael Wiss has been effectively defending and protecting the rights of citizens for over 41 years, both in his hometown of Dallas, Texas, and in many, many other jurisdictions. William Nellis, the Manager and Case Coordinator of the firm, has been involved in the field of criminal defense for decades, since obtaining his law degree and passing the Bar in 1997. Not now a practicing lawyer, Mr. Nellis assists the attorneys and adds his experience, ability to evaluate cases and develop defenses, and utter fearlessness to the firm. He has successfully tried a large amount of serious criminal cases, obtaining not guilty verdicts on cases such as Capital Murder, Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, large Drug Possession cases, Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant, to name but a few.
Michael Wiss
Michael J. Wiss has been defending the rights of citizens for decades. Dallas born and bred, he graduated from South Garland High School with honors in 1974. He went on to Tulane University in New Orleans and obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in 1978. He then came back to Texas and studied law at Texas Tech University (Go Red Raiders!) and earned his Juris Doctorate in 1981.
Mr. Wiss immediately returned to the Dallas area and has practiced uninterrupted since 1981. He has decades of experience in Criminal Defense, as well as Bankruptcy, Civil, Family, and Immigration Law. He is known for his fearlessness and resolve as well as his unique and dedicated ways of handling his cases.
He is approachable, funny, and accessible, as well as being peerlessly knowledgeable about his areas of law. In short, if Michael Wiss can't handle your case, nobody can. However, the pleasant fact is, he has never found a type of case that he hasn't been able to craft an effective defense to. He is the proud and loving father of two successful children and has deep lifelong ties to the area.
Thomas Meagher (Of Counsel)
A California native, Thomas J. Meagher has practiced law since 2000. His field is criminal law in California. He began as desk counsel for an equity derivatives execution unit for a large securities firm. He represented a small tech firm in the successful and seminal ICANN arbitration of case of Giambi.com. In 2006 he engaged in executive services for restricted-stock holders, affiliates, and control persons for a large Broker Dealer. His litigation involved FINRA arbitration. In 2010 Thomas began representing closely held corporations in transition as company counsel, and later he took up litigation in Trust and Estate, employment, and contracts before superior and appellate courts. He added administrative law defense of licensed contractors within CSLB forums. In 2016 he added criminal practice with focus on weapon charges under California’s Mulford Act. His criminal practice expanded to involve assault, child endangerment, theft, fraud, and other accusations. Today his defense practice is enhanced with the association of MJW Criminal Defense, adding Texas to the firm’s footprint and adding trial and case management expertise.
Thomas attended Cal Poly SLO as a Quantitative Economics major and completed his BA in Rhetoric at the University of California. He played rugby for the SLO Mustangs and the Cal Bears. He engaged post-graduate studies in Business at University of San Francisco. He earned his JD at San Francisco Law School and engaged post-graduate law studies in International Tax and Debt Instruments at Thomas Jefferson SOL. He earned many FINRA licenses over his career, including that of Securities Principal. He is married and enjoys the company of his two college-aged daughters.
William Nellis
William "Bill" Nellis has over 25 years experience in the field of criminal defense. When he was a practicing lawyer, he successfully handled hundreds upon hundreds of cases, and had a 85 percent acquittal percentage in trials, including a streak of 11 not guilty verdicts in 13 trials (one hung jury) in the latter part of his career as a practicing lawyer. Mr. Nellis both manages and coordinates the criminal defense and litigation aspects of the firm.
He holds an undergraduate degree from Baylor University, a Master of Arts graduate degree also from Baylor, and his law degree was from SMU School of Law. He practiced from 1997 through 2011, and he has remained instrumentally involved in assisting and consulting with criminal defense practices since. He received local, statewide, and national renown for cases he was involved in.
Mr. Nellis' experience and unique abilities allow him to work seamlessly with the lawyers and ensure that no important issue goes unaddressed in the vigorous defense of the cases we handle. He is married to his wife of 26 years (met in middle school!) and is the proud father of two extremely accomplished kids, both in college.
